Until US production went up (last couple years), most ethanol going into
US car gastanks was being produced in Brazil (source: WSJ article).

The question is: China's trade surplus is large enough to buy, if they
wanted, about half the state of New York. I don't know how much of the US
the Arabs could buy if they wanted to, but they could. Etc.

He filled his mouth with shelled walnuts inside of which was activated

Now the Federal Bank dropped the interest rate by 75 points to 3.5%,
and they won't stop until they reduce the interest rate to 1%.
However, the problem is that every homeowner is up their balls in
debt. They cannot borrow anymore, and thus the consumption-led
kickstart of economy might not happen. But wait ! There are scientists
which were not given credits (on their largess). Evrika ! They can be
loaned money to initiate the start-ups on... mmm... say, the
alternative energy. Oh yeah ! The price for oil is high and gonna keep
that way, so that here is the economical winner ! Alternative energy.

So, gentlemen, start up an alternative energy R&D start up. It will be
bought of your hands by the screeming from excitement venture
capitalists. You will make a fortune on floating it ! You will finally
be able to buy that house you missed on during the past 10 years when
toiling away in the postdoc pipeline !

The last venture capitalist I have seen did not exactly scream. He
rather groaned or moaned ...

I am not positioned too well to take it. I am no longer associated
with the scientific research on alternative energy (but I used to
work on solar cells-associated research during my PhD).

Here is more predictions that the next bubble will be in alternative
energy:

======================================================
http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/america-land-bubbles-next-pop/st....aspx?g

"What's next? More asset-backed bubbles. The dot-com '90s created $7
trillion in market value. The housing boom created $12 trillion in
"fake wealth." Janszen predicts the next great bubble will be a $20
trillion "alternative energy" bubble. In fact, Wall Street's already
hustling biofuels, solar, wind, nuclear, geothermal and hydroelectric
as the new alternative energies destined to replace oil, gas and coal
in this next new economy.

"Timing? The new "alternative energies" bubble will last about 8
years, from a 2005 launch till a peak around 2013, when it will
"creatively destruct," when all possible "fake wealth" is squeezed
out, when investors wise up to the scam, when that new bubble pops.

"In his finale, Janszen admits that when the "alternative energy"
bubble finally self-destructs around 2013, "we will be left to mop up
after yet another devastated industry," while Wall Street "will
already be engineering its next opportunity." "

superb analysis....a way to keep a self destructive artifical culture
afloat.
