I read this article (link http://blogs.itworldcanada.com/shane/2008/01/25/behind-the-next-bubble/
), and it reminded me that I already heard from somebody else that the
next economy bubble will be in the developing the alternative sources
of energetics. The start-up will pop up everywhere -- on the
generation of electricity from sunlight, on harnessing the energy of
tidal waves, wind generators etc. At a local conference a while ago, I
met a local guy (my former compatriot) who built up a start-up in
solar cells and floated it. The English-speaking management tried to
let him out of the company's ownership (as he said), but he still got
some. He was sucecssful at attracting the governmental funding for the
development of the alternative energy. He said that it is the time now
when it presents no problem to get funding from the government for any
idea which is even remotely related to alternative energy. He
suggested to offer him such idea (if I have any), and he would
organise the funding from the government... and he would take his cut
from the grant.
Anyway, it seems likely to me as well that the next bubble and boom
will be in alternative energy. Good news for the scientists !
In fact, my PhD was related to solar cells... and before that, I was
doing a PhD on power engineering (which dropped out from). However, I
do not conduct any work in the area of power generation or alternative
energy... not even remote. It will be such a shame to miss out on
action !
Or, maybe experienced former and current scientists of s.r.c. could
advise me a course of action ? >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

I was about to make the same comment. If it is gonna be bubble it is a
small bubble ... until and unless the Big money from the private
sources are involved. Government funding is a drop in the bucket. They
could help to initiate something but after that if the private sector
is lukewarm it is dead. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

Sarbanes-Oxley had the net effect of producing a lot of steady jobs
for accounting folks. A few years ago, accounting suddenly became a
very popular university major. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

Alternative energy is something different. They can get any tax and
financial incentives possible - and I think they should - but at the
end of they day the new industry must stand on its feet. If the net
result of that mini-bubble is no new commercially viable energy
sources are found then government with all its best intentions is not
able to help.
Therefore, at this stage the broader research is the better. The good
new is that there are indications that investment companies are paying
attention. What is required to get the alternative sector off the
ground is couple of perspective technologies if they exist. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

In Brazil, ethanol production (from sugar cane) was imposed by
political decree sometime in the 1970's by the authoritarian
government there at the time. Successive governments with varying
degrees of authoritarianism kept the ethanol program going over all
these years. Their intention was to make Brazil more energy
independent. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

Here is the issue on this: if laws are put on the books that require X, no
matter what it is, then X is going to happen. The only exceptions will be
loopholes that make it possible to avoid X (eg. tax dodgin) or mass
protest rejection of the law (eg. Prohibition).
There are probably other examples of non-compliance, or loophole evasion,
etc., but a ton of things have come out over the last many decades and,
directly or indirectly, caused a permanent "creation" and "expansion" of
some new part of the economy. Mandatory auto liability insurance exists in
every state and its a guaranteed stream of revenue for the insurance
companies. If this were ever to be "deregulated" out of existence, I would
guess a good million jobs would vanish very quickly. That would be pretty
bad news for the economy.
HIPPA came into effect over the last few years and was estimated to cause
many $bil worth of compliance costs (companies don't like this) as well as
$bil worth of compliance business (which companies do like). Question is:
what is the net? Good or bad? >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

My take on this is that the vampire element will gain a lot of support
and dominance by means of such blind and easily corrupted govt
support,
re alternative energy...it is actually viable when sensibly applied...
as we move to LED lighting (half of the power produced nationally)
such as solar energy becomes vastly more viable.... geo thermal
(ground source steam) even more viable but only worth it large scale,
wave. wind and low grade heat recovery for hot water and home heat
(via parabolic reflectors, low tech, long established) become quite
viable.
Viable to commodity level profitability ranges...not a home run for
corporations. The home runs will be at the govt funding grant fraud
levels...involvement with such scum will decimate ones brain.. imo

Research on 'gas mileage' ethanol' is interestiing.... it seems gas
mileage is reduced by about 10% with ethanol.
about the same amount in emmissions reductions... a net wash. the
previous fiasco, MTB is now shown to have been very destructive to the
environment and withdrawn, tanks dug up etc...
clearer LA enviroment is due primarily to catalytic converters and
clearner engine design and taking bad running cars off the road.

And, a WSJ article some six months ago reported on Bush visiting down
there and blown away with the fact that 25% of what goes into Brazil's
gastanks is ethanol.
Here in Delaware you can't get (by law) anything but gasohol. Been that
way for over a year. No big protests. Not good for outboard motors on
boats, though. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |

I live in the midwest and seen farmers go gaga over planting
corn and building [ stinky ] ethanol distilleries. Supply exceeds
demand now, so there arent profits at the moment.
I also drive along a railroad line several times a week.
Coal trains outnumber ethanol trains about 20 to 1.
No inter-state ethanol pipelines yet to my knowledge. They require
special anti-corrosive construction and no one's put up the
capital yet. >> Stay informed about: next bubble is in alternative energy |
