Job Code: 2301 Division: The Virginian-Pilot Location: VIRGINIA BEACH, VA US Travel Involved: 0-10% Job Type: Full Time Job Level: Experienced Education: Some college Category: Newspapers, Publishing, Sales Position Summary: The Virginia-Pilot Advertising Department has openings for Local Retail Advertising Sales Executives (Outside Salespersons). We are looking for sales professionals with strong communication, organizational and selling skills.
A Sales Executive will be responsible for growing Local Retail Advertising markets.
This position will engage local businesses with identifying the appropriate advertising solutions. This dynamic sales position will provide you with an opportunity to engage local advertisers with print marketing solutions that span from across our suite of products through The Virginian-Pilot,Virginia’s oldest and most respected newspaper.
This individual will acquire an excellent understanding of their customers businesses and regularly provide high-level strategic marketing solutions that will help the advertisers grow their business, and increase their competitive advantage in the marketplace. The person in this position is expected to regularly meet their revenue goals using the proscribed sales process, marketing research/analysis and innovative thinking. While inheriting an existing account list, the Account Executive is expected to spend at least 30% of their time generating new business through "cold calls" and other forms of prospecting.
Essential Functions: * Develop expert knowledge of our competitive environment and market place and identify and capture opportunities * Use probing matrix to understand customer needs and business objectives. Conducting a needs analysis with potential advertisers * Provide superior advertising recommendations and innovative marketing solutions that will help grow the advertisers business. * Regularly make new business calls to increase the number of "active accounts" in the territory. * Prospect for new business through face-to-face, over the phone, email and through networking opportunities specifically in the recruitment category * Achieve or exceed monthly sales goal * Effectively demonstrate a high degree of self-management and organization skills * Cultivate relationships with local, regional and national accounts * Provide superior customer service and proactive in addressing customer needs and concerns Must be flexible and accommodate customer needs and industry trends * Actively participate in team management and work effectively with sales, service and product teams to achieve and improve results. * Must demonstrate ability to act as team player * Must maintain professional appearance in keeping with office norms
Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: * At least two years of Business to Business Media sales experience. * Outstanding communication skills. * High school diploma is required. * Must have consistently met minimum revenue and sales goal expectations in previous employment * Ability to sell at multiple levels (owners, general managers, sales managers, marketing managers or ad agencies) * Intermediate-level proficiency on MS Word, Excel and Outlook * Demonstrated ability to communicate orally, interpersonally, and through multiple technological platforms with a wide ranging audience * Ability to learn quickly and apply key learning’s. * Ability to present product benefits and complete all sales transactions * Demonstrated ability to organize and plan and manage time * Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently yet comfortable in a team setting * Professional attire and appearance
Preferred Qualifications: * Two or more years print and online media experience. * College degree.
