Post subject: Senior Technical Project Manager Location: Edmonton Durati

The TPM is the expert on project management of IMT projects. The TPM works collaboratively with the Business Project Manager (BPM) to ensure the successful completion of the project and that all technical standards and guidelines are followed. The TPM reports through the PD to a steering committee and is accountable for all technical aspects of the project.

As the IMT project management expert, the TPM has the primary responsibility for ensuring all PMO standards and guidelines are followed. The TPM is expected to ensure, with the support of the BPM, the completion of all project related documentation and processes. The BPM remains responsible for the business content while the TPM is responsible for ensuring the completion of all project documentation.

Responsibilities include the following:
o Project management of all technical aspects of the project by:
• Developing the project charter with input and reviews from the Business Project Manager, Project Director and other affected stakeholders
• Developing, maintaining and monitoring overall project work plan
• Tracking, documenting and resolving technical issues
• Managing the technical vendor acquisition process
• Acquiring appropriate technical resources
• Collaborate with business area and IT leadership to develop a well-defined project plan that clearly states the project’s objectives, scope, assumptions, timeline, resource requirements, risks, benefits and budget;
• Lead and/or attend regularly scheduled steering committee and status meetings throughout the project life cycle. Document and report project status against established objectives, milestones, budget and resources. Facilitate closure of issues that cannot be resolved by project teams;
• Develop and maintain a project work schedule with activities, timelines, critical paths and resource requirements. Manage all activities against the project work schedule for the project duration. Review assigned tasks according to work plans with responsible team members;
• Closely monitor project status against the plan, identifying and managing variances via the project governance structure. Proactively monitor project progress and implement mechanisms, such as change control, to keep the project on track;
• Ensuring all technical deliverables are produced, reviewed, confirmed and signed off as per Information Management and Application Support policies, best practices, standardsa and systems development life cycle
• Ensuring the quality and accuracy of all technical deliverables
• Managing day-to-day project activities and issues and proactively resolving technical issues
• Identifying and escalating scope, schedule and cost changes to the Project Director
• Bringing all business items to the attention of the Business Project Manager
• Ensuring preparation of appropriate technical support documentation
• Ensuring all technical project members understand roles and responsibilities
• Ensuring Information Management and Application Support policies, standards, processes, procedures, and best practices are adhered to by the project and that variances are approved by Information Management and Application Support
• Clarifying, consolidating, and assigning priority to the technical requirements of the Vendor Team in order to meet the project objectives
• Clearing obstacles ahead of the technical teams through proactive interventions
• Facilitating seamless transition to the Service Management area of Information Management and Application Support

o Managing the technical team(s) by:
• Communicating goals, objectives, vision to the vendor technical team, and technical stakeholders.
• Communicating standards to the vendor technical team, and technical stakeholders
• Providing overall technical project direction, including planning and coordinating the project activities of the technical teams
• Liaising with the IMAS technical advisory team to determine the impact of the initiative on the technical resources and developing strategies/architectures to address them
• Communicating with internal/external technical stakeholders
