I'm looking for part time outdoor work in Central or West London,
magazine distribution or something. I've been doing this sort of work
for many years, also office/admin and research.

Serious replies only please.

Do you mean you want to work "sort of" in London, or you want to do
"sorting" work in London (ie with letters).

Ahhh, hang on a minute, do you mean "sought" ??

 >Serious replies only please.

I doubt you'll get many serious replies re: jobs, especially office
admin jobs or a career in magazine distribution, if you don't know the
difference between "sort" and "sought".

Your application is even more confusing since one of the jobs you are
seeking is in magazine distribution, which may involve a little bit of
sorting.

Sort yourself out, man! Smile)

and come back again when you've sought out a decent book on grammar...
Wink

Office admin and research may well be out of your league. If you're
seriously looking for work then I would suggest that you learn to spell
first. I think the work you were looking for was 'sought' not 'sort'

Mark, I would never employ somebody in an office who couldn't spell
'sought'. Think about it and you might realise why you are unemployed.

But do you punish someone who does only one error? We all do mistakes, dont
we? Wink

And ... we can learn the language by working and on time.

Should agencies generally be more gracefull towards these kind of
applications? They seem to be fussy.

Of course but it was the thread title after all, and should have been
noticed and corrected if a typo. It shows that the person doesn't pay
attention in that case which is another reason not to employ them.

1. He might just have hit the send button too early - it happens.
2. Anybody can and will be employed at some point in their life. If not,
then you probably have a dull job.

'Sought of' sould be incorrect!

Colloq: "sort of / kind of / type of " work.

I posted a similar answer until I read the subject line and cancelled
it, embarrassed at my lack of ability to read the post properly.

Suggest you do likewise! Smile

It does but I think that when one is looking for a job *and*the misspelt
word it is actually in the thread title, then a little more care should
be taken. That it wasn't shows that the poster does not pay attention
to what he is doing and so, probably, is an unsuitable candidate for any
serious work.

He was after magazine delivery or office work, I think he is probably
apt for the former.

Yes, yes perhaps. But how much serious work can you find in this news group?
He would probably be more careful when writing an application, but then
again writing a good job application takes a lot of time and effort; work
that will be wasted if you don't get an interview. In general, applicants
should not underestimate themselves. Employers are not Gods, they might even
be worse than the applicant and not worth working for.

Yes I agree with all that. It may well have been a temporary absence of
attention on the OP's part and he's been well flamed for it so I'm sure
it won't happen again, at least not with this word. It's true that a CV
is usually double checked and then one more for the pot before it goes
off whereas, as you say, a likely job via ull is pretty unlikely.

I definitely agree with your comment about employers both in their
absence of any innate deity and their all too common habit of not being
very bright at all. I think there is nothing worse than working for an
employer who you know is a dope.
