Description: PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position must possess a strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and possess the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization the requirements of meeting and exceeding OSHA standards that are applicable to the client.

Direct and coordinate all activities as they relate to the safety of facility employees.

Reports directly to the Human Resource Manager but will also work closely with Operations Management. May receive direction from the Human Resources Manager, Director of Manufacturing, and VP of Operations. Must keep the manager abreast of any and all situations relating to the safety and well being of facility employees.

Lead facility personnel in a professional manner toward achieving company safety goals and objectives.

Develop effective communications and a positive working relationship with facility employees, supervision, and the support groups to assure positive teamwork toward safety goals and objectives. Strive for continuous improvement in all functions and capacities. Effectively communicate company safety and health objectives to all employees.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (This list is not all inclusive, see SOPs for additional functions.) Develop and maintain the safety program, to include site-specific policies and procedures and related training. Capable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective action. Administer an in-house program for DOT compliance for all drivers. Act as liaison for the client with pertinent government agencies (OSHA, DOT, etc.) and serve as the representative in cases of inquiries and inspections. Follow-up on all citations and ensure corrective action is taken to ensure closure with the respective agencies. Manage and communicate worker compensation costs and clearly communicate any major changes that occur. Update management on the status of clients safety, health, and environmental program. Oversee and perform the health and safety training that is required by law to ensure compliance with those laws. Organize, plan, and steer the Safety Committees to ensure that employees are provided with a safe work place and all employees are actively involved in carrying out safe work practices. Provide weekly updates on work-related injuries and lost-time accidents. Provide injury specific reports monthly to provide focus to our safety program. Perform routine, comprehensive inspections to ensure that internal safety inspections are performed and fully address all safety programs. Administer the Workers Compensation Program, report claims to the insurance provider. Coordinate the services of the corporate insurance carrier and occupational health Service providers to minimize unnecessary lost work time by employees and unjust claims. Make recommendations for the planning of budgets and capital expenditures for the purpose of short and long range safety planning for manufacturing operations. Develop and maintain the client specific Orientation Training Program (and associated record keeping) for all personnel reporting to work at the job site. This will also include the need to conduct the orientation training. Conducting illness and incident investigations, preparing written reports and making specific recommendations to prevent reoccurrences. These recommendations will also be incorporated into the safety program to prevent similar injuries. Insure that proper safety practices are followed, monitored and enforced. Insure that company requirements for employee safety behavior are followed and to work with his/her managers to assure that corrections are made as needed. Maintain a positive safety atmosphere for employees and assure their needs are met within his/her area. Maintain the OSHA log and insure the accuracy of the data.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/MEASURABLE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors Degree in safety or related field is preferred. 3-5 years business or related experience. Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Lifting 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/ or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds. This job requires walking or standing to a significant degree and/ or can involve sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling.
