Cargill Salt produces, packages and ships salt for the following six major market segment applications: agricultural, food, water conditioning, industrial, chemical and packaged ice control. Our Salt Business Unit is looking for an Accountant to work in our Watkins Glen facility. Position Overview: This position in the Cargill Salt BU will be responsible for ensuring internal control and financial reporting requirements for the Watkins Glen, NY facility and associated warehouses. The position will direct financial activities at these locations and be a key member of the Watkins Glen management team as well as the Cargill Salt BU finance team. With BU experience, opportunities will exist to participate in special projects and initiatives. Principle Accountabilities: 30% - Provide general supervision and training of one non-exempt employee. Manage accounting activities to ensure internal controls and procedures are in place to support accurate and timely financial information that is in compliance with Cargill%27s tax policies and procedures. 20% - Perform month end close activities for Watkins Glen, NY and assigned facilities. Perform analysis of actual operating results against budget. Proactively identify and resolve differences and review results of analysis with location management team and manager. 10% - Assist in the management of the site%27s capital allocation by reviewing and approving commitment requests, maintain accounting procedures and controls to record and monitor the spending against the allocation and the timely closure of projects when completed. Do analysis of previously closed projects to see if project returns are being realized. 10% - IT related activities - Security requests, phone system monitoring, IP compliance, PC/network troubleshooting. 10% - Develop and/or oversee the development of product cost files and perform sales margin analysis comparing actual cost to standards. 10% - Active participant or leader in various local and BU projects or initiatives. 5% - Balance sheet monitoring - Assist with the review of the Cargill Salt BU balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis to ensure balance accurately reflects the operating unit%27s financial position. 5% - Assist with the annual budgets, year-end tax work papers and various government reports. Required: * Bachelor%27s degree in Accounting/Finance or Business with an emphasis in Accounting * 2+ years of accounting experience * Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to internal control * Demonstrated ability to initiate and manage change * Demonstrated strong organizational skills * Ability to communicate with many functional groups and levels * Strong computer skills Wants: * Strong JDE financial system skills * MDE OneWorld knowledge * Impromptu knowledge * Kronos knowledge Cargill was founded in 1865 out of a single grain facility in Iowa.
