Located in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell University is a bold, innovative and inclusive teaching and research university of academic distinction and public service where staff, faculty, and students alike are challenged to be active citizens of the world.%0A The Department of Animal Science is seeking a highly motiviated technician to provide technical expertise to a faculty research program in equine genetics. Responsible for planning and executing experimental procedures utilizing existing and emerging technologies according to required animal genetics protocols. Supervise the daily operation of the laboratory; carry out experiments and conduct appropriate data analysis. Research is broad based, covering a variety of topics, but primarily focused on pigmentation traits and laminitis in the horse. Knowledge of molecular techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, and electrophoresis are a necessity. Occasional work with horses, including handling, may be required. Daily activities included receiving, recording and processing of biological samples for our DNA bank, coordination of multiple research projects, formulation of experimental strategies under the supervision of the PI, and presentation of analysis and results. %0A Manage and maintain lab, order supplies. Provide technical training and guidance to graduate students, undergraduate students, and other lab personnel in all aspects of lab and animal facility operations. Responsible for lab safety training.!*! REQUIRED%0A %0A Bachelor's degree or other formal training program of four years or equivalent in Animal Science, Biotechnology or related field; more than two years and less than four years lab experience including cell culture and animal husbandry. Excellent communication skills both oral and written including the ability to communicate with, and relate to, participating horse owners and veterinarians. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects. Ability to work well with others is required while creating a high-quality and respectful work environment. Experience with a wide variety of computer programs including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), and basic statistical programs and calculations. The successful candidate must exercise sound and ethical judgment when acting on behalf of the University.%0A%0A PREFERRED%0A %0A Previous experience in genetic laboratory techniques and horse handling preferred.
