The mission of the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences is to promote health, productivity, and welfare of food- and fiber- producing animals, companion animals and wildlife populations. We are seeking a technician who can provide a full range of support, with minimal supervision, in a laboratory which uses tissue and cell culture, molecular biology, protein expression, serological and flow cytometric methods. The ideal candidate has demonstrated ability to understand, analyze and improve lab procedures to optimize results and is also committed to continuing education in the field.%0A %0A Responsibilities include: Cell isolation and cell culture of primary cells and various cell lines; Freezing, thawing of cells, large scale cultures for antibody and recombinant protein production; Screening of hybridomas and transfectants; Plan, coordinate, perform and evaluate a variety of establishing assays such as enzyme linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), Luminex assays, intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis, and Western blots to detect antibodies and antigens. Develop new assays and experimental approaches in collaboration with supervisor. Troubleshoot methods. Perform routine laboratory procedures and coordinate daily research activity to maintain smooth operation of laboratory. Prepare reagents and buffers, schedule and plan work for self and students. Maintain cell culture, reagent and DNA/plasmid inventory lists. Instruct students and postdocs with new procedures. Participate in lab rotation to ensure lab is kept clean and organized. Ensure lab operations comply with EPA and University guidelines. Record experimental results in an organized manner and provide initial evaluation of data including sequence analysis, flow cytometric data sheets, tables and graphs to summarize serological data, and digital images to document data. %0A %0AThis is a one year term position, renewal is contingent upon funding.!*! Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology, animal sciences or molecular biology with 1-2 years of laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent working knowledge of general laboratory procedures and laboratory safety procedures. Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral & written) and organizational skills. Ability to keep detailed and accurate notes, exercise sound judgment and discretion in carrying out duties, dealing with issues, solving problems, and/or setting priorities. Ability to work independently as well as in a team oriented environment. Familiarity with various software. Position will require successful completion of Cornell training courses for chemical safety and waste disposal along with CARE training for animal handling.%0A %0A Experience with serological methods, imunhistochemistry, cell culture, or molecular biology methods helpful.
