North Indian IPS lobby behind arrests, alleges MNS

Nashik: The MNS activists were arrested at the behest of North Indian
IPS officers' lobby, alleged MNS leader Vasant Gite yesterday. Ten MNS
activists including Maharashtra unit general secretary and municipal
corporator, Gite, who were arrested and later released on bail on a
personal bond of Rs 5,000 each, alleged that "police are taking action
against us following pressure by the north Indian IPS officers'
lobby".
The MNS men were arrested under Sections 153 (A), (B), (promoting
enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of
birth, residence language etc; and doing acts prejudicial to
maintenance of harmony).
The Raj Thackeray-led MNS on February 23 had issued advertisements in
local dailies appealing Marathi youths to enroll with the party units
for jobs in industrial units, which were affected following exodus of
north Indians due to MNS stir against north Indians.
The advertisement said that as per party's discussion with local
industrial houses, the former had agreed to recruit Marathi youths.
Recently, Nashik witnessed an exodus of workers after they were
threatened allegedly by the MNS activists following their party's
campaign against north Indians. (PTI)
